Core Virtual Technology Competencies

Course materials and concomitant delivery strategies are organized into five online virtual modules (V-modules) that package them for easy access and use by interested faculty.            V-module materials are free to download and use, and are organized around the five core virtual technology competencies outlined below.

Collaboration and Teamwork (C&T)

Fundamental to collaboration and teamwork, collaborative learning is broadly defined as “a situation in which two or more people learn or attempt to learn something together,” and more specifically as joint problem solving (Dillenbourg, 1999, p. 1).

Creative Problem Solving (CPS)

Creative problem-solving is the mental process of searching for an original and previously unknown solution to a problem. To qualify, the solution must be novel and reached independently.

Critical Decision Making (CDM)

Critical decision-making involves systematically gathering and evaluating information to make a decision. It requires finding the best available information and organizing it, then thinking through the options to determine the optimal choice given the circumstances.

Project Management and Leadership (PM&L)

Project management is the process of leading the work of a team to achieve all project goals within the given constraints. Leadership is the ability of an individual or a group of individuals to influence and guide followers or other members of an organization.

Spatial Visualization (SV)

Spatial visualization is the ability to mentally manipulate two-dimensional and three-dimensional figures. It is typically measured with simple cognitive tests and is predictive of user performance with some kinds of user interfaces.
