Technologies
Virtual/3D technology has gained significant importance not only in the fashion industry but also across various other sectors. This page presents an overview of six key applied virtual/3D technologies. For in-depth insights into each of these technologies, along with their applications in the fashion industry with references, simply click on "More Detail."

Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. Specific applications of AI include expert systems, natural language processing, speech recognition, and machine vision.

3D Body Scanning
3D Body scanning is a technology that produces a 3D model through scanning. An individual stands in the scanner's view, while it captures the body image and produces 3D images within seconds. The scanner uses a series of light sensors to produce a 3D image.

3D Printing
3D printing or additive manufacturing is the construction of a three-dimensional object from a CAD model or a digital 3D model. It can be done in a variety of processes in which material is deposited, joined, or solidified under computer control, with the material being added together (such as plastics and liquids), typically layer by layer.

Gamification
Gamification is the strategic attempt to enhance systems, services, organizations, and activities by creating similar experiences to those experienced when playing games to motivate and engage users. This is generally accomplished through the application of game-design elements and principles (dynamics and mechanics) in non-game contexts.

Serious Games
Serious games are a relatively new field where games use learning theories and instructional design principles for learning and training success. They are defined as “digital games created not with the primary purpose of pure entertainment, but with the intention of serious use as in training, education, and health care” (Loh et al., 2015, p. 6).

Virtual Reality (VR)
Virtual reality is a simulated experience that employs pose tracking and 3D near-eye displays to give the user an immersive feel of a virtual world. Applications of virtual reality include entertainment, education, and business.
