V-module Competency #1: Collaboration and Teamwork

Learning Goals:
Being able to collaborate with colleagues and working in teams is one of the five core virtual technology competencies identified in the literature that students need to master for their future career success. The learning objective for this module is to develop students’ skills in becoming a successful member of a team by learning how to collaborate with their teammates effectively. 


Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to understand the basic concepts of teamwork and      collaboration.

  • Students will be able to identify the team life cycle stages and formulate their      interpersonal communication strategies accordingly.

  • Students will be able to create a formal team mission statement (for long-term    teams) or establish a common team objective (for short-term teams).

  • Students will be able to establish a time management plan for the team and        defined team tasks that ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of teamwork.

  • Students will be able to recognize and nurture an underlying team culture for their teams.

This module is available online and can be taught as a classroom or web-based activity.
